Addiction Recovery Program Services

See Central City Lodge location on map

The Addiction Recovery Program (ARP) is a residential drug and alcohol recovery program offered by the City Centre Care Society at Central City Lodge. We have an open door admission policy to any individual who is 19 years of age or older, able to care for himself and who can participate in the program. The program is a 90 day stay with possible adjustments for treatment and extensions.

The facility provides a warm, friendly atmosphere that is conducive to personal growth and change. There are 18 single rooms with bathroom, and 2 double rooms with a shared bathroom.

The purpose of ARP is to give people the information and skills to achieve positive self-esteem, provide the opportunity to practice the skills they have learned to rebuild their lives, and return to the community as a productive member of society.

ARP Philosopy

We believe that problems of substance misuse can be resolved if individuals are:

  • given a sense of structure in their environment
  • a belief that they can control their own well-being
  • the understanding that they are competent to make good decisions

To support this purpose, ARP affords each individual client an opportunity for growth and development with a focus that is both compassionate and client centred. The program also recognizes the ability of the individual to determine and meet his own needs.

Life Skills Development

An important part of ARP is a life-skills development program. This program focuses on developing 12 different life skills that can contribute to a client's success:

  • listening skills
  • goal setting
  • resolving conflicts and controlling anger
  • finding your good quality
  • learning safe, healthy ways to meet individual needs
  • assertiveness (learning to stick up for yourself)
  • confidence building
  • learning to see oneself and others in different ways
  • breaking free from roles that don't work
  • developing friendships
  • stress management skills

Transition into the Community

To ease each client's transition back into the community, the ARP caseworker helps clients find housing, job and education opportunities. The ARP caseworker will assist clients in contacting housing groups, employment counsellors, and resume writing.

We also encourage clients to attend other community programs upon completion of the program. Clients are introduced to the AA 12-Step Program and advised to arrange out-patient counselling if they have other family problems that need attention. We also encourage drop-in visits to the aftercare programs at the Lodge.

Referrals and Information

How does one enter ARP? All referrals into our program are from the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, detox,or outpatient clinics.
