Philosophy

The Society's philosophy of Assisted Living is to promote aging in place, tenant independence, dignity and self-direction. The services provided include meals, personal care, and social activities for the tenants. Cooper Place provides an environment that promotes and supports the independence of our tenants.

Facility

Cooper Place is a five storey building that has been converted to assisted living. It is located in the heart of Vancouver's downtown eastside at the corner of East Cordova and Gore Streets. There are 72 rooms - 66 are single with washroom and 6 are adjoining with a shared washroom. The rooms are small and are furnished with a bed, bedside table, a chest of drawers, desk, and a chair. Tenants may bring personal pictures, television, or other appropriate furnishings. An emergency call system is in each room to enable a tenant to access assistance from staff. The facility has a no-smoking policy and restricts smoking to a room on the main floor.

Program of Services

Personal Services - Personal support and assistance with activities of daily living will be available; sample of activities:

• bathing
• dressing
• grooming
• medication reminders/assistance
• feeding assistance

Meals - Nutritious meals are served - breakfast, lunch, dinner - and snacks and beverages are available. Special diets are available. A dietitian is available for consultation.

Housekeeping/Laundry/Linens - Weekly housekeeping is provided. Bed linens and towels are provided by the facility. All items including personal clothing will be laundered by staff.

Activity/Entertainment - Staff will arrange for socialization and entertainment that tenants can access. Programs will reflect tenants' needs, abilities, and interests.

Admission to Program/Services - The criteria is under development with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority.
